Little Layers

I'm always one to reinforce "me" days. The days when you do what you love. When I get the chance to go home on the weekends, I just escape. I find myself baking, writing, painting, creating with flowers, reading. I get lost in all of these things and my mind just becomes free. My daddy raised me in the kitchen being his little sous chef and my grandmother spent her southern years baking beautiful wedding cakes for everyone in town. I think some of their love for food rubbed off on me, and though I have my hiccups, I've enjoyed learning. I'd hardly say I'm a good cook, but when it comes to baking, I'm really getting the hang of it. Its becoming one of my favorite things to do when I have time. Oh, and when I'm stressed. I don't run to the liquor store (or run anywhere, actually.. haha) but I go to the kitchen, find some butter, and bake. I bake up a storm. Cookies, cupcakes, muffins, pies, cakes. Name it. I can't stop.

I spent my last "me" day baking this delicious 12 little layer cake. My mom helped, (cleaned up my mess, listened to me bark orders, stirred the icing, added more butter). This cake is a southern tradition in our family. Yellow cake, chocolate fudge icing, little layers. The goal is to get as many layers as possible with the batter. This can be achieved by either slicing, or baking each individual layer as thin as you can. I got up to 12 layers before running out of batter, but was pretty impressed with the looks of it. This cake is to die for, easily one of my favorite foods ever, and perfect for breakfast…lunch…and dinner. Dessert?

My last "me" day: baking, homemade brunching, scribbling recipes. Have one this weekend. Smile for me if you eat something sweet with lots of butter and love, and let me know about it!

Sunny Side Up

My look: Free People teehippie pant, necklace - Jeffrey Campbell bootie | Simone's Look: Free People overall, tank, necklace, hat

Photos by my favorite photographer, ever: Alyssa Florentine
[A big big thanks to Jenn and Simone; you girls made this shoot wonderful. So beautiful on the inside and out!! xxx]

I live for that natural light kissing the city buildings. I also live for these pants. I could spend every waking minute in them. They flow in every way a girl could want and have me dreaming of Coachella days in desert heat. With love from my favorite super babes over at Free People Pittsburgh, this mini look book was shot welcoming spring and all of the sunshine and happiness it brings. A mix of rock n' roll with boho vibes is always my go to.. and a touch of chic elements like these cat eye sunnies and black brim hat are the cherry on top. Us girls had so much fun skipping the city streets detailed head to toe. We munched on cookies the size of our heads, chased the sunset, with messy hair and no agenda.. what free means to me.

I have one more look from this lovely day to share with y'all.. so keep your eyes peeled. Free People Pittsburgh will be opening a new location at Ross Park Mall on May 2nd! I'm so so excited about shopping their new location, I've heard wonderful things!

Go be free this weekend, eat lots of chocolate, and dance in the sunshine.

Studio City

I just got back from visiting my boyfriend in California and I'm already dying to go back. My silly point and shoot camera came along for the ride and I can't wait to show y'all the film once it gets developed. Until then, admire these palm trees and drool over globs of cheesy In-N-Out deliciousness. Happy Thursday!

REMember Music | SXSW

A night full of talent, originality, and love. I had the chance to travel down to Austin, TX this year for SXSW to watch my boyfriend, Dylan Reynolds perform in a showcase with his fellow label mates. Mac Miller's new label REMember Music brought Texas a breath of fresh air with a showcase of different artists doing what they love. The label is a mix of all genres - everything from singer-songwriters to rappers. This diversity really adds a beautiful aspect and made the night feel like an adventure. The showcase was held outdoors at The Scoot Inn which had a vast amount of room yet intimate feel. It was a perfect night under stringed lights with good music, a loving crowd, strong drinks, and a food stand serving the best veggie quesadilla I've ever eaten. Each performance had a specific sound that kept me wanting more and more. I seriously felt like a proud soccer mom the entire time. My camera strap was glued to my neck throughout the night as I soaked it all in through my lens and ears. I grooved, I sang, I captured. I left feeling both refreshed and overwhelmed after hearing such raw talent. Each and every artist and person involved with REMember Music did a wonderful job making the night magical. They are bringing the music back.

Spring Break, Please Donut End.

Over the past week I've been living my last Spring break.... ever. I started off in Austin for SXSW and recovered in Pittsburgh for a couple days of relaxation with my family. Being home means lots of "me" time, which is usually spent eating, painting, hiking, baking, and living a straight up couch potato life. I love the days with no agenda. No plans, no problem, I'm a happy girl. Overall my break has been absolutely wonderful and I feel so lucky that I have such beautiful, talented, and loving people in my life. Above are a few shots from the past few days. I have lots and lots of pictures from Austin that will be coming up on the blog soon, as well as some pretty cool outfit posts. For now, I'm gonna enjoy a few more pastries and lazy away my Sunday. New new new goodies coming up here soon!
